Gardening and Allotment Growing

I know it's early days, but is anyone interested in forming the "Oakley Vale Gardeners Association". Before anyone says anything, I'm no gardener, I have more of my plants die on me each year than I care to admit.
May I suggest to start off with by meeting up for a social sometime. Venue to be decided later, after getting some feedback.
In the meantime just keep asking the Chair about "Open Spaces".

Dear Sandgrounder,
I think the Oakley Vale Gardener's Assoc. a great idea. Would you be willing to head up a sub-committee to do this. I can't do it all
Thanks.

Hello Judy,
Yes if we can get some space for Allotments for Oakley Vale.
In the meantime has anyone any plant pots left after they have planted out their plants? I'm looking to re-use them.
Looking to get cuttings, at the appropriate time of the year. That's why I need the pots.
Have looked into the matter of Trees and plan A is expensive, so going to plan B.
Donations of seeds or young saplings are most welcome.
Anyone up for a brainstorming session in Harpers Brook in February?

Have made some enquiries about the possibility of getting the use of some of the unused land here in Oakley Vale. Just waiting to see if anyone comes back to me as promised.

Have several varieties of Sunflower seeds that I collected from Flowers grown last year and a few spare Fennel plants. Any offers with regard a swap, then contact me via the site.

An Area of land within Oakley Vale has been identified as a possible site for some Allotments. Checks and all the other legal stuff has now to be carried out to see if this land can be made available for use. This will take a few weeks, but being an optimist I'm looking forward to a favourable outcome.

In the meantime will check out a few other sites that people have suggested in other parts of Oakley Vale.

Have been given an Oak tree seedling which I have potted up for the time being. I'm happy to say that it is still alive and infact has budded and has several leaves on it. Suggestions are invited as to where to plant it when it is large enough.
Picked up some seeds on my travels over the Easter Weekend and in the meantime waiting to see if they germinate. Being the optomist, if anyone has any plant pots they would like to donate for me to use to pot on these seedlings, and in fact any other plants that will be given in the future, then send us an Email.

Anyone been watching the BBC's Gardening programme on a Friday night, or whenever if like me you record it for later viewing. Signed up for the free "digin" seeds and they have now arrived. Have been promised some more tree seedlings so will be probably needing some more pots soon.
Towards the end of the summer, yes I know it's a long time off, will be interested in hearing from anyone who has a suitable corner of their garden, front or back which might be able to give one of these seedlings a home for a while before planting out on the Estate once we have from all concerned an agreement on location.

Been harvesting a few of the leaves off the Bay tree in my Garden. I have more than enough for my own use, so anyone would like some then let me know, I'll bring them to our next meeting at the Grampian on 8th July for collection.

Noticed on the country roads just outside Corby & Great Oakley that there is an abundance of fruits ready for picking in the hedgerows. So if you are into Rose Hip or Elderberry Syrup, crab Apple Jelly or Apple Juice, could be a nice way to spend an afternoon or evening.
If you need any recipe ideas then just google them. So far I've juiced enough apples to give me over 14 litres of juice, some of which I've put in the freezer and frozen for future use.
Also stewed some in the microwave and had with homemade Yoghurt but easily could be with Ice Cream or Crumble topping, or both.
Have now also located some Blackthorn Trees, So if you like to pick some Sloes, ask me at our next meeting at the Grampian Club next Wednesday for their location.
